Champagne on the Beach
I'm most at peace when I'm at the coast, so I worked to create the Champagne on the Beach feel in our family's home. The juxtaposition of casual and elegant reflects the way I try to live my life--basic and rhythmic most days with adventures and celebrations from time to time. This project reflects my personality and our family's values and lifestyle. Come visit and see what you think!
A day at the beach isn't complete without the sunset and a glass of champagne. Wet swimsuits are changed for clean, white linen. The stickiness of the day washes away, leaving a warm glow of sun-kissed cheeks and shoulders.
The sand is swept outside, but not forgotten altogether. Grooves worn in floorboards by gritty flip-flops and dirty dog feet bring to mind delightful memories of family visits. A faded, frayed beach bag in the corner spills sand and shells onto the seagrass rug.
Little ones are tucked into bed, dreaming of sandcastles. It's almost hard to believe that these rosy angels were making mischief on the beach just hours ago.
For a short time, the joyful shouts of children are replaced with silver stillness, interrupted only by the sound of the waves and the gentle pop of the cork.
Liquid sunlight fills the curves of hand-blown flutes. Nothing fancy, nothing false. Just the beautiful simplicity of daily living with loved ones.
Maybe we should stay here and never go back.

This coastal home is the perfect integration of laid back and elegant. Wear-and-tear serves only to assimilate the natural environment into the house and exemplifies the client’s focus on relaxation and family relationships. The worn, driftwood-colored flooring, natural fibers in the rugs and furniture, and open display of everyday items such as beach bags and kitchenware underscore that life is to be lived here. And yet, touches of silver and blown glass bring an elegant air to the environment.
The contrast is stunning and revelatory: Fine living need not be restrained by formality and boundaries.
Stylistic considerations:
• Balance/contrast: Worn, relaxed objects mixed with elegant touches—distressed, driftwood-color hardwood floors, hand-blown glass light fixtures, polished nickel plumbing and cabinet hardware, and elegant silver frames and serve ware
• Colors: Fresh tones reflecting the colors of the coast and sky; whites, blues, greens, creams, and beiges
• Textures: Natural fibers such as cotton and wool for fabrics; wood, jute and sisal for floors; and woven baskets, and natural wood elements for added texture
• Lighting: Large windows with minimal coverings and light fixtures of blown glass, wood, and other natural materials
• Decor: Large, comfortable furniture, artwork featuring beach scenes, minimal décor, elevating the practical and the simple
